Cunningham Children's Home will host our annual 13th Festival of Quilts, April 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at our Spiritual Life Center in Urbana.
Our largest fundraiser, the festival honors the tradition of the United Methodist Women, and the quilts they have created and donated for more than 100 years for our kids. Each child at Cunningham receives a quilt of their own to wrap them in warmth, safety, and love.
The Festival includes a collection of show quilts that creatively blur the lines between conventional quilt making and fine art. Quilts of all sizes are available to purchase through a silent auction and quilt boutique. Participants may also enjoy home-baked goods from the bake sale, lunch at the café, and handcrafted items from the gift shop. Admission to the festival is a suggested donation of $5 per person and all proceeds will benefit children, youth and families served by Cunningham.
"Cunningham's vision is to see every child thrive." said Sharla Jolly, Director of Advancement for Cunningham Children's Home. "Through the Festival of Quilts, we raise money for programs and services that will improve the life of a child which will positively impact members of their family and will eventually enrich our community. That's why we love the way the community comes around Cunningham at Festival time to support us and share their compassion. They are paying it forward."
Once again, the Festival will be a recognized gallery of the Boneyard Arts Festival, which brings together area businesses, organizations, and artists while promoting the cultural vibrancy of our community.
This year's event features two guest speakers. Friday and Saturday at 2 p.m., Deborah Fell will present stories of hope that inspire her work. Fell, a full time studio artist committed to the art quilt medium, is a professional member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates and ArtQuilt Network. Well-known quilt teacher and lecturer Sherry Fourez Sollers will present her miniature quilts on Saturday at 11 a.m. Sollers is a competitive quilter throughout the Midwest.
Tours of Cunningham's campus will also be a part of the two-day event. To learn more about the Festival of Quilts, "like" the Festival events page on our Facebook page @CunninghamChildrensHome.
