The Fighting Illini football team scored their first touchdown of the season for Cunningham Children’s Home.
Under the leadership of seniors Matt Maddox, JJ Simmons, and E B Halsey, the Illini collected 100 yards of donations from generous community members. The last yard was spanned thanks to University of Illinois offensive line coach Ed Warner and his son, who carried the last items out to the field at 6 p.m. to the cheers of the players and crowd.
Illini Aid for Cunningham Children’s Home raised over $9,000 in in-kind items and $1,300 in cash and gift cards.
Day-long promotions by the Illini Radio Group—Mix 94.5, WIXY, Extra 99.1 or 92.5 The Chief —helped the team score big for kids.
Several Cunningham youth and their parents came out to help with the event—loading donations or making gifts of their own. One youth was interviewed on Mix 94.5, and shared her perspective on what a great place Cunningham Children’s Home is for young people. Throughout the day, the event celebrated the generosity of the community and highlighted Cunningham as a place where kids know someone cares.
If you didn't get a chance to participate in Illini Aid for Cunningham Children's Home, you can still make a donation today. As always, thank you for your support!
