Orange Krush Cheers for Cunningham Kids

On October 13, Cunningham Children's Home received a $6,500 grant from the University of Illinois Orange Krush Charitable Foundation to upgrade our kitchen and purchase a new stove in support of wellness initiatives.

Our goal for wellness programs agency-wide is that the approximately 177 young people who eat meals at Cunningham will receive more nutritious food and participate in increased physical activity over the next year.

The grant from the Orange Krush will enable our food service staff to increase the number of dishes that are prepared fresh in our main campus kitchen, as opposed to purchasing pre-prepared items that require only heating. This will result in both healthier meals, and in meals that look appealing and abundant without being overly fatty or caloric. The new stove is more than just a new piece of equipment; it is an investment in the health of our children and youth.

In the past the Orange Krush Charitable Foundation has supported programs at Cunningham including our Residential Treatment Center and equipment for our occupational therapy programs. Entirely student-run, grant funds come from pledges based on 3-point shots made by the U of I Men’s Basketball team. When you root for Illini Men's Basketball, you are also rooting for community organizations like Cunningham Children's Home, who benefit from these grants.

Go Illini!
