Danielle Sheppard Thrives at College

In August 2006 Cunningahm supporters received copies of an essay, "Award of the State," by former Cunningham client Danielle Sheppard. Danielle has stayed in touch and shares this update.

Danielle completed her Associate's degree while she was a client of Cunningham’s Independent Living Program. Today she is working on completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Radio and Television Communication at Southern Illinois University. Danielle is doing great at SIU, thanks in part to continued support she receives from her Cunningham caseworkers and from scholarships from the state of Illinois and Cunningham Children’s Home.

Danielle is getting good grades and volunteers for the Carbondale public television station, where she gets hands-on experience in television production on two local television programs. She works on the set of "Hi-Q," a quiz show for high school students, and floor directs for an informational segment called "In Focus." She has also made some great friends through SIU’s Intramural Rugby Team, and plans to move into an apartment at the end of the school year.

Danielle returns to the Champaign-Urbana community when she is able, and will be working as a temporary office worker in Cunningham's administration building during her holiday break. She is currently living in an SIU dorm, and looks forward to moving in with room-mates in their own apartment next spring.
