Luther Checks In...
Dear Friends at Cunningham,
I was a resident at Cunningham Children’s Home a long time ago. The skills I learned and the people who touched my life helped me deal with my peers as well as with life itself.
Another person touched my life – Kendall Gill. I remember meeting him and even getting his autograph before the golf game. He came out to the basketball court behind our cottage and would play a game with us and talk to us. That was such a great thing to me. When I saw him it was life-changing. A real-life NBA star telling me I can be famous even though I was in a children’s home. That was the greatest thing ever.
I could go on forever about all the times I remember, but what is important is that I have become a man now. I’m living in North Carolina and have been married for two years. We have a 15 month old daughter and are expecting our second child next January. We own a business in the Raleigh area and will be expanding soon to other cities and states. We are members of a church where I usher, and I will soon start my pastoral studies.
Right now I guest speak with youth at other churches and just share my life and how it has changed. I always make sure to mention Cunningham when I speak.
I will forever remember all of the great people and the great times I had at Cunningham. Thank you for helping, mentoring, and saving my life. I love you all.
