A Plan for the Future

Since 1895, Cunningham Children’s Home has been a place of healing, hope and opportunity for young people.

Providing an appropriate environment for kids to heal, learn and grow has meant different things at different times in our history. Even ten years ago, young people did not come to us with such complex problems and severe behaviors.

In 1999, Cunningham embarked on a master campus plan to address the serious therapeutic and safety needs that were not being met by our existing facilities. By 2001, our Board of Directors had approved a plan to radically transform the Cunningham campus in order to create living and learning environments where clients are provided with therapeutic experiences 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Phase I of the Master Plan involved the creation of our Residential Treatment Center and Spiritual Life Center, as well as extensive site work. The Residential Treatment Center was opened in 2005, and the Spiritual Life Center opened in 2006, just in time for Christmas worship services.

We are now turning our attention to the educational, vocational and therapeutic recreation needs of our kids and embarking on Phase II of the Campus Master Plan. Our next goal is to create a new education and special therapies complex.

Thanks to our honorary campaign "Coaches," Lou and Mary Henson, with Team Captains Kendall and Wendy Gill, we are on our way towards realizing our dream of safer and more effective learning environments for our youth.
