Specialized Foster Care:
Whose Life Will You Change Today?

Cunningham Cares about foster parents,
so you can care for a foster child.

Call Cunningham if you are interested in foster parenting. They will help prepare you, assist you, and help solve problems that arise. They're friendly and always there for you – and they always put kids' needs first."
– Danny & Jill Neubig, Foster Parents

Have you ever thought about being a foster parent?

Are you looking for a place where you can get support, information, and advice about being a foster parent?

Cunningham's foster parents are central to our team of professionals, working together to meet the needs of hurting and troubled foster children and youth placed in a foster home.

Foster parents must be:

  • Caring, concerned, and committed to children and youth.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Available 24 hours a day to meet the needs of the child placed in their home.
  • Able to meet State of Illinois Foster Home licensing standards.
  • Able to participate in training.

To become a Cunningham Children's Home foster parent, you must also live within 30 miles of Urbana, Illinois. Not from our area? You can learn more about other Illinois agencies at foster kids are our kids.org

Specialized Foster Parents:

  • Provide youth with a positive, accepting environment in which she/he may experience planful change.
  • Are an integral part of aTreatment Team which includes the youth, biological parents, foster parents and Cunningham staff.
  • Help develop and implement the behavioral treatment plan for the child(ren) placed within their home.
  • Act as liaison to the child's school and other community resources.
  • Serve as mentor and role model to biological parents.

Support for foster parents

Cunningham provides our dedicated foster parents with significant training and support – including 27 hours of pre-service training, 15 hours of treatment foster parent training, and 6 hours of educational advocacy.

To offset the cost of supporting a foster child, foster parents are provided with a total of $40.55 per day for room and board, clothing, and the child's allowance. All of the child's medical and dental expenses are also paid.

Foster program staff are available on call 24-hours a day, every day. Plus, foster parents are supported and encouraged through monthly support and training dinners where childcare is provided. We truly see foster parents as an extension of the Cunningham team and family.
