Residential Treatment Referral Process

Young people referred for Residential Treatment are officially considered upon receipt of a referral packet from an approved funding source. Although referrals may be initiated by telephone inquiry to the intake coordinator, the referral packet must be received in order for the referral to be officially processed.

After the intake coordinator reviews and logs all referrals, an initial screening is made to determine if Cunningham is the appropriate place for the youth and if space is available in the residential program. The intake coordinator then arranges an assessment interview when the referring agent can bring the youth to Cunningham. During the assessment, the intake coordinator meets with the referral agent to gather more detailed information regarding social history, presenting problems and request for services. The youth will also have an individual interview with the Associate Director of Residential/Clinical Services and other cottage representatives.

Following the assessment interviews the intake coordinator reviews the referral with the director of residential programs. A decision is then made with regard to placement at Cunningham.
