Luminaries of Hope and Live Nativity

Luminaries of Hope and Live Nativity

Preparations for Christmas start and finish with a special drive through event on our campus: Luminaries of Hope and Live Nativity.

We celebrate and honor Judge Joseph and Mary Cunningham and are so thankful for their giving hearts and desire to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children in need. They are truly our lights of hope.

Luminaries lit throughout our campus represented the hope ignited in the 807 youth, adults and families we serve each year.

This uplifting event brings the light of hope at Christmastime to those we serve but also to our entire community!  Along with a live nativity, luminaries purchased by supporters are lit throughout our campus and for a suggested donation of $5, the community is able to drive through and enjoy this special event.

When guests arrive, they receive a program featuring the names of all who have purchased luminaries of hope and the names for whom they are honoring or memorializing.

All five of the people I’m recognizing are now deceased. The story I want to share is that my mother, Mary Ellen Melton Bosch , my aunt Marian Melton Van Der Snick and my uncle Leo “Jake” Melton were all raised at Cunningham in the 40’s and 50’s and all attended the 100th anniversary of the home.

Milagros Diodonet
by Jennifer Rosa
My grandmother, Milagros, passed away this year from cancer and COVID-19 complications. She had a big laugh and an even bigger heart. A heart that led her to open her home to many foster children over the years and ultimately to four permanent additions to our family through adoption. Her legacy will continue through all her children, biological, adoptive and foster alike.

Jeff Naugle, a boy I knew in 5th grade who had a hard home life and ended up at a boys home in  PA. He ran away from that home, and I never saw him again. I hope he made it. I hope all children with such hard starts in life get a second chance.
