Cunningham Children's Home is counting its blessings. Generous friends have given more than $17,000 in Blessing Gifts to celebrate our 120th Anniversary. We are so grateful!
Blessing Gifts are a way to honor the legacy started by Judge Joseph and Mary Cunningham when they deeded their home to help "homeless and friendless" children. In his journal, Judge Joseph wrote, "May God's blessing go with this gift and may it be the means of doing much good." It certainly has! Thousands of young lives have been positively impacted.
Chaplain Gay King Crede shared a great example of God's blessings in action as part of her weekly spiritual reflection to campus:
"During a Spiritual Life Group several months ago, one young woman was very upset. She would not go to her room or join the group, but was pacing back and forth in the hallways, cursing and slamming doors. It was distracting, but I tried my best to keep the group focused on our Bible study.
When the young woman went out the exit door the alarm buzzed. That's when I suggested we pause and pray for her. That got negative reactions from the members of the group. "She doesn't deserve prayers the way she's been acting." Holding up my Bible, I asked, "Really? Is that what this says?" The newest resident got everyone to join hands and offered a simple, beautiful prayer.
The young woman didn't run away. She calmed down and the group settled down and was able to focus on the discussion."
When you make a Blessing Gift, you are supporting the spiritual life programming at Cunningham that's so vital to our youth. Through experiences at Chapel on Wednesday evenings, spiritual life groups, vacation bible school, church camp, and more, our kids find a loving connection that brings hope and healing.
Please join us as we invest to "do much good" for the future. Go to cunninghamhome.org/donate before October 25 (the day that Cunningham opened its doors in 1895) and help us raise $120,000 to recognize our 120 year history.
May God's blessing go with your gift and may it be the means of doing much good.
