Life Lessons in Lyrics

Sixteen-year-old Jarrod began writing furiously, requiring two separate pieces of paper to express his thoughts.  His emotions which centered on his relationship with his mother, and the abuse he endured, flowed feverishly onto the paper:

You never listened…You went to prison, you got out, and you started again…
 

Maturity and Motivation

"He's made great progress in coping and self-regulation. The staff always saw this potential in him. He just needed to see it in himself," said Melissa Breen, a case worker at Cunningham's Gerber School. Her comments came as she called 14-year-old Jessie to the stage to receive the Social Work Award during the school's annual award assembly.
