Honoring his wish

The gift-giving season can be stressful and when you have 807 youth and families to "shop" for, you start early.

At Cunningham, this process starts in October with the filling out of wish lists. Cason*, a student from CIRCLE Academy, our therapeutic day school, completed his wish list with the help of Ms. Kinnett. Listed were any shirt, socks, fidget toys, string and coloring materials.

Family is everything

Family means everything to Adrienne Lewis,* and this Christmas will be extra special with more stockings hanging from the mantle and more chairs around the dinner table. In the past year, the Lewis family has officially expanded by four. Adrienne adopted three of her nephews last August and her niece’s adoption was finalized just last month.

Jeremy's joy

BROOOOOKKKKEEEE! BROOOOKKKEEE! WHERE IS BROOKE?!" echoed loudly throughout the lobby of the Spiritual Life Center one afternoon.

It was obvious by his yelling that Jeremy* was anxious to find his friend Brooke, Associate Director of Advancement, and Chaplain Gay quickly pointed him in the direction of her office.

Christmas Wish List Now Available

Leaves are changing and falling to the ground…days are getting shorter…nights are getting longer – sure signs that fall is here. But at Cunningham Children’s Home, we’re already thinking about Christmas. Why? Because with more than 450 youth to shop for, we have to start early!  The holidays can be a challenging time for our kids, but with your support, we can make Christmas special for them.

Mario's Jesus Blanket

For Christmas Eve service this year, Chaplain Gay decorated the worship table in the Spiritual Life Center in a special way -- with a gift she had received from one of our kids. During Wednesday night chapel service earlier this month, 12-year-old Mario* couldn't wait to give it to her.

"Mario ran up to me and said, 'I have something I want to show you,'" Chaplain Gay explained. "He had it wrapped in a gift bag with a note. It was a big deal to him and very, very sweet."

The note read:

Dear Chaplain Gay,

The Ripple Effect

Jennifer Lane of Westville never imagined the ripple effect that would be created from what started out as a difficult conversation with her 10-year-old son, Carson. Because of some unfortunate circumstances in their life, Jennifer had to tell Carson that he would not be getting as much for Christmas this year.
